  3. PlayStation Vita Review

With one of the weirdest console launches in recent memory the PlayStation Vita officially launches tomorrow, after being out in japan since December and out early for some gamers last week, Sony’s long awaited next handheld is finally here. The Vita is a great piece of equipment if you are looking for a handheld. the Vita has great games, trophies, group messaging, friends list, and NEAR. Oh yeah and it also has two cameras, two touch pads, and yes even two analog sticks….thank god.

The Vita has a lot of stuff going for it and only a few things that hold it back from being the ultimate handheld system. The friends list lets you know what all of your friends are gaming and with trophies you can make sure you are always ahead of your friends no matter where you are. NEAR is new to all gamers and Sony has done a great job with this. At first NEAR is kind of hard to learn what the hell you are doing but after messing around with it for a awhile you realize that NEAR is a really neat thing. In NEAR you can see what other gamers around you are playing you can look at there trophies and even give them in game gifts and if this doesn’t sound integrating enough to you just imagine what is yet to come. Another thing the Vita does great is switch between what you are doing almost seamlessly. For instance say your playing a game and want to check the trophies or message a friend. All you have to do is hit the home button click on what you want to do and boom your there. Then just hit the home button again select your game and with nothing loading you are right back into the action. But if you want to pause a game a go on the internet or visit the store the system makes you close out your game, which does get a little frustrating at times but hopefully a system update comes out to fix that. Other than that the system runs great and fast when switching through the programs.

The Vita is a system of firsts. Its the first system with two touch screens which personally I think they could have done with out the rear touch pad but hey its what makes the Vita unique. The rear touch pad can be a pain in the ass sometimes when your trying to hold the Vita and your hand slips and hits the back touch pad it could cause some problems within the game but on the other hand there are some games that utilize the rear touch pad in a great way so its kind of a love hate relationship with the the rear touch pad. The Vita also is the first system to come with duel analog sticks and it is about god damn time we finally have this in a handheld. They make the Vita feel less like a handheld maybe because with two sticks there are more opportunities for bigger and better games. Also the Vita has two cameras but if you have a phone made within the last 4 years there is a pretty good chance your camera is better than the Vita’s camera. I’m not sure why Sony chose to put shitty cameras on the Vita but hey it doesn’t take away from any games play or anything really important to do with the Vita so I guess its okay. One thing I am not able to review is playing a game on your PS3 and pick it up on your Vita this is because I do not have a PS3 but from what I heard and have seen it seems pretty easy but there are only a couple of games that do this as of now.

Over all the Vita is a great system and I would recommend it to anyone. If you have the money to spend on it or your on the boarder I say go for it there are plenty of great games coming out and lots of really cool features and this system has a lot of potential and I would love to see what it can do in the future so go out and buy it so it doesn’t end up the the PSP.

  4. How to make sure the Vita doesn’t tank

As every one knows the PlayStation Vita officially releases next week in the U.S. but some people already have there’s including me, and after spending a decent amount of time with it, playing games at preview events and games of my own, I decided to write a post on how to make sure the Vita doesn’t tank and end up like the PSP.

First and foremost Sony needs to support it and CONTINUE to support it. I mean lets face it every one knows about the PS3 so why not take some of the money out of advertising for that and put it into advertising for the Vita and show people what this thing is capable of doing. So there can be a community for NEAR and it can do what Sony wanted it to do because it is a great idea, but it will not work if no one has a Vita.

Another thing Sony can do is make sure that they have a lot of big name games come out and keep coming out. One of the main reasons the PSP failed was the lack of games for it and if Sony doesn’t want to repeat themselves then they need to have an array of games and so far they have had a great line up of launch games from Uncharted to WipEout. Also with games like Resistance and Mortal Kombat on the way so far Sony is doing a good job so I guess only time will tell if they can keep it up or not.

Lastly Sony needs to learn how to price their games right and not all over the place like they are. Sony needs to remember that this is a handheld device not a console. Trust me people will not want to pay $45.00 for a game even if it is an Uncharted game. I mean why pay that much when Super Stardust Delta is $10.00 and is the best game out for the Vita right now. I think a more reasonable price for triple A titles would be either 30 or 35 dollars and games that are not as big as Uncharted or WipEout or Fifa should be more along the price of 10 to 15 dollars and the Mini’s should be .99 cents to 5 dollars. If Sony gets some kind of pricing structure together it could extend the lifetime of the Vita and get people to play good games on it.

Of course there are probably a thousand other ways Sony can make sure the Vita doesn’t tank but these are only a few and they are my opinion. If you have any other ideas or other Ideas you would like to see me write about you can reach me on twitter @gaming_lord92

  5. The week that was for 1/1/12-1/8/12

The year has just started and we have already had a couple of big rumors from new councles at E3 to Diablo 3 coming next month and a bunch more of news.

Starting off with the biggest one, A very trusted source said that the next PlayStation and Xbox will be shown at E3 this year in which I agree but also disagree. I agree that the next Xbox will be there but only announced. I highly doubt that we will see what Microsoft’s next counsel will look like since it is projected to come out near the end of 2013. On the other hand there is no way we will see the next PlayStation at this years E3. I just cant see Sony showing off a new counsel with the Vita releasing in February one would think Sony would be showing off news games for the Vita and the PlayStation Move but not only that Sony has gone on record saying that the PS3 has a ten year plan andf with this being the 5th year in the PS3’s life cycle why would you introduce a new counsel when there is so much more other stuff you are able to do.

Yesterday a big rumor broke out that Diablo 3 was coming out on February first. Best Buy was all set up and even had a countdown to the release date but in an update Blizzard has said that Diablo does not yet have a release date. All we know for sure is that it is slated for Q1 of this fiscal year.

Our third rumor this week is about Nintendo and the Wii U. The rumor being that that Wii U will have will have a full-blown app store. Nintendo has yet to comment on this stay tuned for more information.

The PlayStation Vita recently came out in Japan and so far is not doing so good, in fact it has already been discounted. No word on if these prices will carry over onto the North American release or how it will affect the sales over here, I guess time will only tell.

In another report Microsoft that suggests there could be DVR features in the next Xbox. Not sure what they are yet or if they are even for the next councle but if it is done right it could be a really cool feature for the next Xbox.

Finaly for my last peice of news this week the one I am most excited about is that Shigeru Miyamoto the creator of Mario, Zelda, Luigi’s Mansion, and Pikmin. Hope fully this game is going to be cross platform but we have no idea what it is or when it will be released hopefully we hear more at E3.

That’s all the news for this week check back again next sunday for more news, since CES starts tomorrow so there should be a lot of news coming out of there, until then you can follow me on twitter @Gaming_Lord92
